WHITESIDE COUNTY FAIRGOERS WILL BE TREATED TO TOURS OF THE FAIR GROUND’S CENTURY OLD HISTORIC ROUND BARN FOR THIRD
YEAR DURING THE 138th ANNUAL EVENT, WHICH RUNS TUESDAY AUGUST 12, THROUGH SATURDAY, AUGUST 16.

MORRISON –Tours of the Whiteside County Fairground’s historic “round barn” were so popular last year that they are being scheduled again for this
year’s 138th annual fair, Aug. 12-16.

The twice daily free tours, given by former board member and friend of the fair Ed Abbott, will be held at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13th
through Friday, Aug. 15th.  The 2 p.m. tour will start right after the bicycle give away.

Those interested in taking the tour are asked to assemble outside the secretary’s office in the center of the fair grounds.  Each tour will last 30 – 60
minutes to view the beautiful barns on the fair grounds.

The century old barn—which actually has 14 sides—is only one of a few remaining barns from the turn of the century with such a historic link to the
past.  In recent years, volunteers and fair board members have made a special commitment to restoration and renovation of the barn which serves
as a focal point of the fair grounds.

During fair week heavy horse exhibitors turn the barn into a show place for their beautiful livestock as they await their turns in the show ring.

For more information about these, or any other fair events, check out the fair’s website at www.whitesidecountyfair.org
Saturday, Aug 16th from 12:00 noon-1:00 p.m. Paper Bead Making, 1:00-2:00 p.m. Learn Tatting – Needle/Shuttle.

Grandpa Cratchet puppet show will return to the Fair again this year.

Wilson Family Rides will provide the midway entertainment, with new rides and attractions that will delight fair-goers this year.  Only $9 gets a rider
unlimited rides from 1-5 p.m. on “wristband days”—Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  “Midway Madness” takes over Wednesday from 1-9 p.m. when a
rider can ride to his or her content with the purchase of a $15 wristband.  Look for $2 off coupons in the newspapers, as well as in this year’s fair book,
to make Midway Madness an even better deal.

WHITESIDE COUNTY FAIR SETS TIME TO HONOR THE “2008 FRIEND OF THE FAIR” DURING THE 138th ANNUAL
EVENT, WHICH RUNS AUGUST 12-16

MORRISON –It’s a fairly brief ceremony, but Whiteside County Fair Board of Directors President Paul Vock considers it
one of the most important events of each year’s fair.

It is the “Friend of the Fair” presentation, this year scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 6:45 p.m. before the Next-Level
Pro-Bullriding at 7:00 p.m.

The fair board has chosen The Belt & Isenhart Family as the “2008 Friend of the Fair” honoree.  Since 1989, the board
has sought to single out those who have made an extra effort to help support and make the annual Fair as much fun as
possible for all those who participate or attend the many shows and events.

“This year, the board offers its sincere thanks for the many years of friendship and Dairy shows they have done at the
Whiteside County Fair” according to Vock.

“It is always a great pleasure to present this award,” he said, noting the fair’s continued success depends on so many
people doing so many different things.
